I LOVE CNY! CNYs are always full of Ang Pows, new year goodies, good food, laughter! I like!
I spent my chu yi visiting the houses of my uncles n aunties from my father's side. Due to the lack of sleep from the previous night cos i was trying to shuo shui, I was super tired the whole day. And by the time we reached home and bathed i practically lied flat on my bed and fell asleep, thereby pang seh my bro and cousins' mahjong session. I woke up only now. =P
Anyway, may i announce that i am an Ah Yi already to my super cute niece call Pearl!
baby pearl and me
She has got a even cuter and chubbier elder bro whom i didnt get to take picture with cos he was running here and there all the time.
Even my little cousin xiao bao is already an uncle to baby Pearl!
Today is a happy day. Because it's my mummy dearest's birthday! Being the ever filial and thoughtful daughter I am, I went to search the whole of heartland mall after my kick boxing class for a decent present for her. With the limited time i have to dinner and the limited choices of gifts i can choose from at the pathetic mall, i decided to buy this sophisticated looking sovil titus watch from city chain.
My mum was happy when she saw her present and she happily took it out to try it on...
To my horror, while she was trying it on, she accidentally dropped the watch and the second hand of the clock face came out!~ :'( My $160 gone down to drain...
We rushed back to the shop immediately and Thank Goodness the shop assistant allowed us to exchange for a brand new one. Mum decided to choose another design cos she said the strap of the watch i bought her was too thin for her thick wrist. -_-
On a cheerier note, i felt good when my mum looked at her new watch and said, "eh, thank you leh." =D
Dinner at Pow Xing restaurant at Serangoon Gardens was good! Eating good food with my family makes me a happy girl!~
On days like today, i just feel like doing this to those irritating and shitty people out there.
You know how some bo liao people will try to take video/photos of you when you are in the mrt or bus? And they do it so darn obvious that makes me feel like going up to snatch HIS(only guys are that bo liao) camera phone away, slam it on the floor and grab him by the collar and say 'dont you ever do that again!'
I hate mondays. Waking up at 6am is a torture! I always have to rush my work on sunday nights and after a certain time i just cant fall asleep. My 2 to 3 hrs sleep ended up with me looking like a zombie in class the next day.
Tuition with my korean kid was better this time round. He spoke up a lil bit more and seemed more excited than the last lesson when i taught him science. Have decided to teach him for twice a week instead of 3 times. Thought the money is good, travelling all the way to queensway is super xiong.
I'm lazy to blog nowadays... Went for Wan Qi's birthday party last sat.
I'm too tired to upload all pics.. these are some nicer pics..
The rainy weather has caused me to postpone my blading session with Andre again. Thereby allowing myself to settle in a vegetating lifestyle of mainly sleeping, eating and wasting time away..
read this at Wan Qi's blog... Something meaningful and worth reflecting on....
"Bargain Basement"
I discussed the Discount Concept with a few people yesterday. So I thought I’d talk about it now.The Discount Concept goes kinda along the same lines of the Old Cow New Cow Concept, except that it applies in this case, mostly to girls.
Let’s take Sally. Sally is your ubiquitous, typical girl. She’s not Miss Universe, but she’s not a cow either. Sally meets Harry. Now, Harry is no Prince Charming. But he’s really sweet to Sally, and he’s kinda funny and they start going out. Now, while Harry is hardly Sally’s idea of Mr Perfect, or even quite what she imagined Mr Right might be like, but they get along pretty well and she quite enjoys his company and attentions. So, Sally starts making DISCOUNTS for Harry. The list kinda goes like this:
Sally’s hopes for Mr Right:
1. Above 1.70m in height. (Harry is 1.60m, so, give DISCOUNT)
2. Cute (Harry is more on the ugly side, but he can be adorable at times, so, give DISCOUNT)
3. Fit (Harry’s not fat, but he definitely doesn’t have visible muscles, so, give DISCOUNT)
4. Graduate (Harry didn’t go to the university, so, give DISCOUNT)
5. Financial stability (Harry isn’t in the habit of saving for a rainy day, so, give DISCOUNT)
6. Good dress sense (Harry’s idea of a classic fashion statement: striped polo shirts tucked into pants that are just a little too tight in the seat and a little too short at the ankle, so, give DISCOUNT)
7. Sensitive, gentlemanly and savvy in social occasions (Harry’s laugh is a little too loud, and sometimes sounds suspiciously like a bray; he believes that tears are for wusses and all real men drink Tiger and *gasp* he eats with his mouth open. SooOOO, give DISCOUNT)
8. Good sense of humour (Harry’s favourite brand of humour is showcased in the Jay and Silent Bob Movie and he thinks Ali G is the funniest dude on earth. Though to be fair, he knows lots of corny jokes that aren’t actually too bad, soooOOO, give DISCOUNT)
9. Able to carry on intelligent conversations (on current affairs etc.)(Harry’s idea of intelligent conversation usually has to do with Ruud van Nistelrooy’s latest goal or whether Owen should have left Liverpool. Until recently, he thought Condoleezza Rice was a new cereal from Kellogg’s. SooOOO, give DISCOUNT)
The list goes on, but you get the idea by now, I suppose….
At the end of the GREAT BIG SALE, the verdict? . . . . . . . . .
Harry makes the cut!! And Sally settles down to contemplate a long-term future with him. They progress along fairly smoothly, and soon they are talking marriage. By this time, they have been a couple for 4 years and they share an apartment, a cat and a car...
Suddenly, Bunny appears. Now, Bunny is either a. Harry’s first love b. The head cheerleader Harry had a crush on in high school c. A chick from his office d. A client e. A KTV hostess f. The middle-aged widow who moved in next door g. The roadsweeper (Once again, the list goes on and you get my point and no, I do not think at all highly of Harrys…)
Now, for some strange reason (that can only be due to an accident in the cosmos, or really degenerate, defective instincts in humankind today)
Harry feels some sort of connection with Bunny and/or vice versa. So Harry and Bunny start either:
a. meeting for clandestine lunches and/or dinner etc b. sending each other clandestine SMSes and/or emails c. having clandestine phone sex d. having clandestine cyber sex e. having clandestine sex in person f. sharing other clandestine activities g. some or all of the above (Once again, you get the idea….)
Somewhere down this terribly deceitful and nefarious road, Sally finds out about this clandestine relationship. Harry tries to deny it, but when left with no escape, admits to it. Sally is shattered. But chances are, as hurt and angry and betrayed as she may feel, she is willing to give him another chance. And so they drag on dismally for some time. However, the sordid state of things between Harry and Bunny do not come to an absolute end either. And the whole mess gets messier and messier.
Finally, Harry decides that: a. Sally is just a little too staid (read: BORING) for him b. Sally limits him. She hinders him from pursuing his grand dream of becoming a Nobel prize winning author/musician/artist, that he had given up when he was six. c. Sally is not good enough in bed d. Sally is starting to be a little frumpy e. Sally is too bossy f. Etc etc etc
AND a. Bunny is the THE ONE. The LOVE OF HIS LIFE. GOD’S GIFT TO MANKIND. MIND-BLOWING SEX PERSONIFIED ETC ETC ETC
Finally, Harry breaks up with Sally, secretly congratulating himself that he had narrowly escaped making the greatest mistake in his life. He moves in with Bunny or they run away to the Carribeans or something.
And Sally? The poor girl is devastated. Her life is in pieces. She binges on junk food, she stops doing laundry, infomercials become the ultimate entertainment, she stops taking baths….
Now, some Sallys get back to their feet and some Sallys don’t.
What do they all share in common? They ALL made DISCOUNTS for their Harrys.
KNN, can discount one, already give discount. CANNOT discount one, ALSO give discount. And then? In the end, the WANKER can still turn around and fuck her over anyway??? WHERE’S THE JUSTICE???
And they say women are unnecessarily angsty??? PUI!!!!!!!!!
Okok, I admit. This account is definitely kinda extreme lah, and admittedly, was sparked by something that came up recently. BUT think about it. How many of you haven’t given discounts to someone else or been given discounts by someone else??
Are you a Harry? (You know, most of the Harrys I knew ended up with nothing, coz things with Bunny didn’t just not work out, the Bunnys damn near cleaned them out. Some damn lucky Harrys crawled back to their Sallys though, and the silly girls actually took them back.)
At the end of the day, everyone should take a good look in the mirror lah. Sometimes, the things we have, are already mega-blessings from God and we should everyday burn incense and give thanks already. Don’t KNN wish for the sun and the moon when we already have a tiny twinkling star in our hands.
Oh, moral of story?
Girls, you’re not a bloody bargain basement, ok???Wanna give discount also must open eye big big, BIG BIG, and see ok???
Don’t be a Sally. The poor girl gave so much discount until in the end, she discounted herself as well. I’m not saying hold out for bloody Colin Farrell but don’t settle for a toad then let the toad fuck you over either!"
When my bro told me when i woke up bleary-eyed this afternoon that our cousin's 3 months old baby died. He said that so casually that i was shocked and asked him to repeat it again. 'Er gu called and said that Jian Guo's baby died.' he said.
I called my mom immediately to reconfirm the information received. In a calm tone, my mum told me that she and my dad are going to the crematorium to attend the funeral of the baby. As an aunt, i felt the neccessity to attend my little nephew's funeral. However, due to my mom's superstition that i'm not supposed to attend any 'white' matters' this year, i was forbidden to go.
Although i have never seen this little nephew of mine, i've heard plenty about him from my mum and aunts. Apparently, he was a healthy baby when he was borned. However, due to his extremely stingy father who scrimp and save on his milk powder, he remained very small sized. And most recently when he was brought to my grandma's house for a visit, my aunts saw a burnt mark on the baby's arm which was sustained when scalded from a kettle by accident.
I've never particularly like this cousin of mine since young because since young he is already very stingy and petty. As i grow older, my ugly impression of him never change because of many incidents that prove the point that he is indeed a greedy miser.
I really pity his wife... I've never talked to her much but my impression of her is someone really soft spoken and down to earth. I pity her because she did not even get to realise a dream of every girl to have a proper wedding dinner ceremony when she got married to him. When she was 8 months pregnant, i met her by coincidence and she was going to work on a rainy day. 8 months pregnant leh! Shouldnt she be at home taking care of her health? Even if she's working, shoudn't she be taking a cab or be driven around by a car(my cousin has a car) instead of squeezing with commuters in the bus on a rainy day? And now she has to suffer from the truma of the death of her very first baby.
Whenever i hear complains from my aunts about my cousin's stinginess, i will always shake my head. He even asked my aunt to sponsor his son's milk powder can! I dont understand why he wanted to have a baby in the first place when he is unwilling to provide for him. Mind you, he is financially suffcient!
As i was not allowed to attend the baby's funeral, i went out with the girls as planned initially. I came back home at around 12 plus and my mum waited for me at my lift below my house to accompany me up. Even though i always complain of the lack of freedom i get from my parents, at the moment i was really glad that my mum was with me... She has been with me all this while despite me being wilful and stubborn most of the time. Sadly, my little nephew of mine did not have the privilege of having a really giving parent. I dunno what exactly caused the death of this little nephew of mine but i pray that he will be happy in another world..
My 2006 started out on a good note. Deanne is back in Singapore and the moment she touched down she immediately rang me up to ask me to take over her tuition kid cos she wants to concentrate on her modules this sem. Guess how much the pay is? It's a freaking $30 per hour for a primary school kid! Weeeh~ I have income now! No stupid tuition agents to cheat my money!
Before school started i was afraid that i might end up in classes without any familiar faces. To my surprise, i found out that my 2 of my og mates are in the same class as me for 2 modules and i met familiar faces in 2 other modules as well... =D
I fell asleep in my tax class today. It wasnt my fault really... Before the lesson i had an Old Chang Kee curry puff thinking that i would be hungry if i dont eat before my 2 consecutive lessons. Then as i was trying to be attentive to my rather funny tutor, i somehow doze off... i was trying desperately to keep my eyes open n copy the notes at the same time but somehow my mind really drifted off... Then i decided to go toilet. After i came back from the toilet i found many scribblings on my notes written in an illegible manner.. den i realized that i was the one who wrote it while my mind is in dreamland...
Hai~ no food for me before lessons next time! I shall not fall asleep in class again.
Stan left for exchange to Hong Kong. Had a farewell dinner with him... Being the very nice me, i baked him his favourite oreo cheesecake! Then we woke up at a freaking 4 am to send him off at the airport!
Hello everybardy! Happy 2006! I know i'm 2 days late, here's how my New Year eve went...
In the afternoon, Grace, Huimin n me went back to hall 4 to help Huimin move her stuff back to her home. As Grace was given instructions by her dad not to use the boot, we miraculously managed to squeeze all the barang barang that she collected during past 1 and a half years into the car. While all her barang barang occupy the front n back seat, Huimin n I had to sit at one small corner that's left in the car. To express her gratitude to us, she treated us to Ding Tai Fung at Junction 8!
At night, we had wanted to go MOS with Tham but due to the hassle that we have to go through to get the cheaper tickets, we decided to just go ktv and to Grace's house to play mahjong. I suggested that we go to this 10 dollar ktv at chinatown cos it will definitely be cheaper than other ktv rooms. So off we went to pick Grace's friend, Jia Rong up and headed to Chinatown!
We turned into the carpark near the 10 dollar ktv and realised that it was full! The exciting part came when Huimin suggested this small lane that we could turn in to make an exit through the marketplace. Sho smart! Grace turned in and to our dismay the lane was damn narrow with another van parked along the narrow lane.. We were stuck! We neither reverse to go out nor head on. In the end, we got down the car and tried as hard as possible to guide Grace's car through the smelly market place with filled with big trucks and lorries.. Despite nosy onlookers in the market who kept staring at us and slippery slope down the narrow lane, thank god, we managed to get out in the end.
We parked at a nearby carpark and walked to 10 dollar ktv. Hai~ When we reached there, we were told that it was fully booked. Party world, Kbox and Kster around the vincinity were all offering their rooms at exorbitant rates.
We bought cakes and red wine and then decided to go Labrador park to play fireworks. Poor Grace got burnt at the thumb when she tried to hold the lighter so that we could light up the fireworks. As we were all bitten by the deadly red ants there, we decided to go West Coast Park instead..
After West Coast Park we went home cos the manager said no alcohol at their Halal MacDonalds. The highlight of the day for me was that i drove Grace's Mercs! Haha... even though i drank a bit of red wine before that! I was freaky lucky that there was no traffic police along the roads I drove that night. My driving license is super precious to me.
Ok i know this narrative entry is very boring so next will be the pictures!
